dupes three policemen of Rs 8 lakh

Mumbai:
A police constable duped three of his colleagues to
the tune of Rs 8 lakh under the pretext of providing
them cheap housing.
The Azad Maidan police
on Friday arrested constable Mohan Ambavde (40) on
charges of cheating and breach of trust. Ambavde, who
was produced before the Ballard Pier court, was
remanded to police custody till October 24.
The case dates back to
May when Ambavde, who is attached to the Local Arms
Division, promised to provide housing at very cheap
rates to three policemen. The three have been
identified as subinspector Feroz Patel and constables
Sachin Suryavanshi and Sanjay Bhalerao. While Patel
was duped of Rs 2 lakh, Suryavanshi and Bhalerao were
duped of Rs 4.5 lakh and 2.5 lakh respectively.
Ambavde, who was earlier posted at Mantralaya,
claimed to have good contacts in the chief minister’s
office at Mantralaya. Ambavde said he had already had
a word with senior government officials and even took
the three policemen to a plot in Navi Mumbai and
promised to get them flats at subsidised rates.
