"They (the Special Investigation Team officers) were waiting for my retirement to frame me"... R S Sharma .. Retd. Police Commissioner (Mumbai)

June 28: FORMER MUMBAI Police Commisioner R S Sharma, who was on Wednesday discharged in the multi-crore fake paper scam, has decided to take on the Special Investigation team (SIT), which he claims was biased in investigating the case and falsely implicated him.

Talking to HT at his Worli residence on Thursday, Sharma said he would write to the state government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) (which is now investigating the case) to nail and pinpoint those who directly or indirectly helped Telgi - and are still out.

Sharma said he would contemplate legal action against SIT officials if the gonernment or CBI failed to act against them "I will consult my lawyers and examine all legal options."

Telgi's sentencing on Thursday was a victory for him

He alleged that officers from the Maharashtra police and SIT like former Director General O P Bali, Deputy Inspector General Subodh Jaiswal and former Director General S S Puri "padded lies against" him.

"I was the one to arrest and demolish Telgi first and some others as well. But the problem started when I wanted to to make Telgi's wife Shahida an accused, which former inspector general of police S M Mushrif did not want," he said.

He said that in the part of investigation which was conducted by him and his team while he was Pune police commissioner, 25 people were made accused. "Most of then have pleaded guilty and not a single one has been discharged."

He said SIT official had from the beginning (when the case was handed over to them made up their mind to arrest him. "they were waitring for my retirement to frame me," he said, addig this happened because he superseded some officers in becoming Mumbai's police commissioner. (reproduced from Hindustran Times)
